The Story Behind the Book
When I bought a small apartment in Scalea, I realized how little I knew about the real Calabria.
I began asking questions and collecting authentic regional recipes. I connected each dish with the Calabrian town or area where it traditionally belongs. Then I brought together Marco and Lucie—the fictional heroes of my illustrated stories—and sent them on an imaginary journey through forty places across Calabria.
Every Italian sentence is followed immediately by its English translation. The result is a fictional illustrated travelogue, a regional cookbook and an entertaining way to discover Italian—phrase by phrase.
